We implement projects in crime fighting, border management, research and innovation.
The goal of the DIGIPOL Project is the digitization of procedures and services provided by the Police to the public, within the context of modernizing the way the Police operate. The Project is being implemented within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Cyprus and concerns one of the largest government Projects in digital transformation.
Due to the pandemic, the need for citizens to interact with the Police intact and without physical presence has become more intense. The Police is an Organization with a large number of personnel that, due to the nature of its responsibilities, offers several services to citizens, usually in physical presence. For the Police to be more effective and efficient, it should follow innovative avenues, such as digitizing its processes, which should be easily accessible to citizens and user-friendly. This can be achieved by integrating digital technology into the various processes of the Police, which will result in the reduction of administrative costs and the facilitation of the daily lives of citizens and Police.
On the basis of the above, due to the opportunity presented by the announcement of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Police Officer II Chryso Angeli, Deputy Director of the Finance Administration and Head of the European Projects Management Branch at the Police Headquarters, suggested the digitization of the mechanisms and operations of the National Law Enforcement Authority in section 4.2 Promote e-government –Reform. The Project named DIGIPOL is expected to have a budget of €8m., plus VAT
The Project is led by the Cyprus Police in collaboration with the “KOIOS” Research Center of Excellence of the University of Cyprus, which is expected to undertake mainly the preparation of the technical specifications for the implementation of the digital platform. Due to the large scope of the Project, it is expected to be implemented with the cooperation of other private entities, which will be involved at various stages following a process of announcing public contracts.
The purpose of the DIGIPOL Project is to create a platform, (type of GESY platform) where the main procedures of the Police can be processed by the citizen digitally and intact. Through the ARIADNI government portal (there are already Police procedures recorded in ARIADNI to be implemented), the citizen will be able to submit his request online, which will be forwarded through the DIGIPOL platform, to the Police system for automatic processing and sending /processing of the citizen’s request, who will receive feedback on the matter.
This proposal is expected to complement and support a pillar of the Project launched for the Reorganization and Modernization of the Police, the digital upgrade.
